05/22/98 INTERNET EXPLORER SCROLL PROBLEM ( see notes below )was corrected by adding a line. Thanks to Jonathan from the coffeehouse.com for reminding me.
08/01/97 The field size for adding text to each post has been limited to 120 characters. This will stop most script lockups, and prevent crashes on viewers computers caused by oversized scripts. This will also stop hecklers from posting large messages to jam the screen.
1/10/98 The Logon Name field was limited to 12 Characters. This was to stop abusers from posting hundreds of characters in this field thereby spamming the room.
NEW ADDITIONS
05/24/98 New room designated for ages UNDER 12 YEARS OLD chat.wwcol.com/cframe00.html Thanks to Lance, one of our younger viewers.
Q Well NOW mt screen scrolls OK, but I cannot see the text until I click on the right side Scroll Bar !
A This seems to be related to ems to be related to older versions of Internet Explorer only. We are looking into it, but so far most think it is still better than having to actually have to scroll after each re-fresh.
Q Once in a while my screen refreshes with no text shown at all.
A This is usually caused by a video error, on the users ( your ) system, yet sometimes the text is lost in route to you, or just has not arrived yet. Give it a few seconds to see if the text appears, if not, you should be able to click on your browser's RELOAD Button.
Q When I enter data it seems to take several seconds for me to see what I typed in appear
A In order for html to work as chat, there has to be a screen refresh timed into the pages. This is set to 15 seconds in these rooms. When you post dat, it can take a max of 15 seconds for your screen to refresh, depending on when the last refresh was. This is not an error.
Q I seem to keep getting bumped out of the room. I have to re-enter to get back in.
A We have not found any reason for this to happen. We have never been able to create this error even with several systems being used to test. We think it may be a computer problem on the client's side of the connection. Clicking too fast, mis-typing, and sometimes accidentally clickentally clicking the logoff button instead of the post button. We are adding distance between the buttons to help stop the latter problem.
Q I keep getting a message that tells me I have to contact the webhost in order to post data in the rooms, but I am permitted to watch.
A This happens when the IP address of an offender is listed in the access refusal area. Either you, or someone from your IP has been booted from using the rooms. You will need to contact us, by using the e-mail click option built into the message so the IP number can be removed. Once in a while, many users may use the same IP number. All will be blocked. If we are forced to, we will have to block out the many in order to prevent the abusive actions of the few. You can help by monitoring users at your location, such as an office line used by others. Periodocally, all offending IP numbers are removed allowing another chance to all people.
I will add information to this as I get a chance, and we find out more about the life and times of HTML chat on the Net.
